Glossary
A middle note is an aroma that forms the body or heart of a blend and helps connect lighter top notes with deeper base notes.
What Middle Note Means
Middle notes often feel rounded, balanced, herbal, floral, spicy, or full. They are not usually as fleeting as top notes or as heavy as base notes. Many classic blending oils sit in this middle space.
Why It Matters
Middle notes help a blend feel complete. Without them, a blend may feel like a bright opening with no body, or a heavy base with no lift. Middle notes can soften sharp oils and connect different aroma families.
Example in Essential Oil Use
Lavender, geranium, roman chamomile, and rosemary can all act as middle notes in different types of blends.
