Glossary
A base note is a deeper, slower aroma that can anchor a blend and last longer than many lighter top or middle notes.
What Base Note Means
Base notes often feel woody, resinous, earthy, balsamic, smoky, or warm. They tend to evaporate more slowly and give a blend depth, grounding, and staying power. In natural perfume, base notes can help support the whole composition.
Why It Matters
Without base notes, some blends fade quickly or feel too thin. A small amount of a base note can make bright oils feel more settled and give floral or citrus blends more structure.
Example in Essential Oil Use
Cedarwood Atlas, sandalwood, vetiver, frankincense, and myrrh can all behave as grounding base notes.
